Description

Introduction Economic inequality has always been a core concern in England. Underlying the Magna Carta of 1215 and the Bill of Rights in 1689, it was again inequality between high food prices set by wealthy landlords and low-income working classes that led Parliament in 1846 to repeal the Corn Law tariffs and open the country to cheaper food imports from abroad. The issue appeared once again in Britain's historic General Strike of 1926.
